Cerussite from Magnet Mine, Waratah, Tasmania, Australia, measuring 98 × 80 × 47 mm and weighing 239 grams. Its sizeable matrix gives the scattered pale mineral groups room to stand out, with Magnet providing a distinctly Tasmanian collecting connection. The named mine is a central part of its interest for collectors who follow secondary lead minerals from individual workings.

Cerussite is lead carbonate, formed characteristically in the altered portions of lead-bearing deposits. It provides a different chemical expression of lead from the sulphide Galena or the sulphate Anglesite. Comparing those minerals is an engaging way to follow the changes that can accompany weathering and alteration, while keeping the individual species clearly distinguished.

Small pale crystals are scattered across an ochre-yellow and dark brown matrix. The varied ground provides a strong backdrop, allowing the lighter mineral groups to remain visible even though they occupy only part of the face. It is an engaging matrix specimen to explore gradually, moving between the overall pattern and the individual pale clusters. This example comes from the David Vince Collection. The combination of substantial size, a named Tasmanian mine and preserved collection provenance gives it a well-defined collecting identity. It can contribute equally to a Magnet locality group or to a systematic collection of lead minerals, where the carbonate species adds another part to the wider mineralogical story.
