Pyromorphite from Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia, measuring 50 × 38 × 38 mm and weighing 200 grams.
Pyromorphite is a lead chlorophosphate that crystallises in the oxidised zone above lead-sulfide ore, typically as barrel-shaped or hexagonal prismatic crystals ranging from green through yellow and brown depending on trace chemistry. Broken Hill's oxidised zone has produced Pyromorphite across several of its historic workings, and the species is one of the more visually distinctive secondary minerals to come out of the field's weathered near-surface ore.
This piece comes from the David Vince Collection. Broken Hill Pyromorphite is a recognisable, well-documented addition for any collection focused on Australian secondary lead minerals.
