Natrolite from the West Ridgly Quarry, Burnie, Tasmania, Australia, measuring 68 × 46 × 38 mm and weighing 96 grams.
Natrolite is one of the more common zeolites in Tasmania's basalt and dolerite provinces, usually forming as fine, needle-like crystals lining the gas cavities of the host rock, sometimes radiating outward into small sprays or tight clusters. The quarries around Burnie, on Tasmania's north-west coast, are part of a well-documented regional zeolite occurrence, alongside related species such as Thomsonite and Gonnardite from similar basaltic settings nearby.
This piece carries an interesting chain of ownership: it was originally part of the Roger Colling Collection before being acquired by Allan Waldon, whose collection it comes to us from now. A documented history like that is always worth preserving alongside the specimen itself, and it's part of what makes a piece like this more than just a nice zeolite.
